Cooking rice on a slow cooker??

i have bought a 'rival stoneware slow cooker' from argos and i would like to cook rice on it, the thing is that they say in the instructions that i should cook rice/pasta/noodles on the hob first??? they say that i shouldnt put lot of water in there, so how is the rice gonna cook?? please advice
