How does eviction work?

I was served an eviction notice on the 7th day of sept, rent was due on thie first. they are telling me to move buy midnight on the 10th, is that legal? i ask because they never gave me a pay rent or quit notice that says how much i owe and to pay before handing me this eviction notice. can we still go to court? can i still pay before then? the eviction notice says it is unconditional, but i know there ahs to be a process.
